GoGoDragons!

The fine city of Norwich has been beset by dragons!

A rare mirror-scaled dragon patiently waiting to use a phone box in Tombland, Norwich

Now, before you go blaming me or Witchface for "accidently" leaving a Cusp interface open allowing the dragons to make their way here, this was nothing to do with us.
Not this time, anyway.
Shhh!
Heh heh. Just ignore the SubCs. I'm sure I don't know what they're on about!
Anyway. Back to me. Or rather the dragons, as I'm sure that's what you really want to see.

 §

These dragons - GoGoDragons - have been brought to the city of Norwich by the Norfolk charity, Break (Break support vulnerable children, young people and families across East Anglia). The 84 large dragons are an interactive sculpture trail that wends its way through the city. Each one has been decorated by an artist (or organisation) with a particular theme, and they'll all be auctioned off on the 1st of October, with the proceeds going towards Break's funding.

So, without further ado, may I present just some of the GoGoDragons I've seen on my walk into work (in order of appearance):

This is Draco, GoGoDragon number 29 on the Fye Bridge. The artist is Illona Clarke, and its sponsored by Chilled Driving School

GoGoDragon 41 is named Cavell and can be found in Tombland. Its artist is Samuel Thomas, and its sponsored by Almary Green & Aspiration Europe

GoGoMosaic is also in Tombland, and is GoGoDragon 42. Carolyn Ash is the artist who created this mirrored mosaic, and its sponsored by Leathes Prior Solicitors
Ascalon is GoGoDragon 4 and stands proudly outside the Guildhall, from which the artist Kate Munro - Equal Lives Youth Forum - were clearly inspired. This dragon is sponsored by the Alan Boswell Group
Dragonfly is just one of the GoGoDragons that can be found in the Forum on Millenium Plain. In keeping with its name, GoGoDragon 82 has dragonfly wings and compound eyes. Dragonfly was created by Ross White and sponsored by Shred Station Ltd

GoGoDragon 84 is called Luda and is also located within the Forum. It was painted by Kieron Williamson and sponsored by Arnolds Keys
GoGo King Tut is dragon 80 and can be found on Millenium Plain. Artist Helen L Smith painted this GoGoDragon and its sponsored by Friends of Iceni
GoGoDragon 68 is named Morgan and is situated at the bottom of Hay Hill. It was designed by Sophie Green and sponsored by the Norwich Organ Donation Committee
Scorcher is the final GoGoDragon I see before I get to work (just around the corner). Numbered 49, and created by Hannah Nelson, Scorcher stands outside Clapham & Collinge Solicitors, the firm that sponsored it.

You can find out more about the GoGoDragons, their artists and sponsors, and the charity (and even donate) by clicking the links. There's also a handy trail map.

Previous years have seen the streets of Norwich swarming with Elephants and Gorillas!

  1. Oh, how wonderful! Thank you for the dragon report. I especially like the sparkley ones! I would love to see them in person.

  2. Being the big gay that I am , I of course like the disco ball one the best. They are pretty cool. Here, our fair hamlet did a similar project with artist painting murals on horses. They then led one all through the town like your show. I do believe you need one of those. Now if you'll excuse me....I'm still trying to get my sea shell off........

  3. I'm going to see if I can get photos of some of the others, LX. I believe there's a crystal-studded one (Bling!) and one covered in tuppences called, funnily enough, Tuppence! I guess these will have to do unless you can get that Space Shuttle working again to pop over here?

Mistress Maddie: The disco-ball one is my current favourite, too. Good luck with that sea shell - I hope your wang isn't forever stuck in a spiral!

  4. I love these so much! Especially the mirrored one. The one by Tescos is brilliant.

    Much better than the gorillas.

  5. And more numerous than the Gorillas too, Roses.

Although, aren't gorillas an endangered species...?

  6. They are wonderful.... and an inspiration for my next tin foil hat design!
Are we having a tin foil based competition this year?
    Sx

  7. Actually, yes! In October, I will have been blogging for ten years, and the traditional gift for a ten year anniversary is tin. So, I have decided to hold another tin foil hat compo - probably in late-September - and display the results/announce the winner on the anniversary date!
